Gary Barnes has been a Service Technician at Tri-County Electric Cooperative (TCEC) for 37 years serving the Balko and Bryan's Corner areas. The people he serves have become friends and he has grown to know them well. Thank you, Gary, for your continuous hard work and dedication to TCEC.
Fun Facts
Gary's wife is the principal at Turpin Elementary School. You can also find his two boys, Jake and John Barnes, at Turpin schools teaching and coaching. Some of Gary's favorite hobbies include fishing and camping. One day he plans to move to the mountains where he can do a lot of trout fishing.
Becoming Superman was Gary's childhood dream job. Growing up, his first jobs consisted of mowing yards and working at a grain elevator.
The Challenges and Successes
Being a service technician can come with challenges. The most challenging part of Gary's job is when storms hit our area or he has to go out to work in the middle of the night.
"But, if you do your job, it's not too hard to keep the lights on," says Gary.
Some of Gary's favorite parts of his job are communicating with members in his service area and keeping the lights on for people. He also enjoys his coworkers. Working for his boss, Matt Taylor will always be one of his favorite memories.
"You can't beat that guy," said Gary.
The Impact
The part of the job that Gary enjoys most is the people he serves.
"I know the people that I serve," said Gary. "They have helped me as I have helped them. It's been a community friendship."
Gary's legacy is to work hard and try to help people. When Gary's kids were young, he worked a lot and missed some family time, but he believes this instilled a great work ethic into his kids.
