Goodwell Public School is in the process of implementing a greenhouse to go along with its community garden. Every grade level takes part in this schoolwide project. The Tri-County Electric Cooperative (TCEC) Foundation awarded the project $2500 for the supplies needed for the greenhouse.
About the Greenhouse
The greenhouse supplies will consist of various trees, herbs, and vegetables. The greenhouse will use hydroponic fertilizers, enabling water cultivation without soil. The greenhouse is a German design that will be able to withstand the Panhandle's winds and storms.
"With the climate out in the Panhandle, we have some challenges with our winds," said Ms. Sandels, teacher and sponsor of the Goodwell greenhouse project. "I wanted to make sure that we got a greenhouse that could withstand all of our climate changes and adversities. When I came across the German design and saw how it was structured, I decided that it was the greenhouse for us."
The Goal
The greenhouse project aims to teach students to solve problems they might face in their communities and world, like climate change. Throughout this K-12 project, kids learn to sustain their livelihood in the Panhandle area.
The greenhouse will allow students to experiment with different plants, soil types, and fertilizers to see what works best in different environments.

The TCEC Foundation Board of Directors meets quarterly to review applications for Operation Round Up and disburse funds. Applications are due July 1 for consideration at the next meeting on July 13. If you know of a need, encourage the charitable organization to apply online.
